The Coalition for Independent Ratings Services

is a non-profit organization that promotes independent ratings services.  We believe is crucial that the groups rating the movies, TV, video games, etc are not the same ones who are trying to sell those products to you.  Since they don't have a financial interest in any particular product, independent ratings providers can be much more objective.


The goal of this site is to be a "one-stop shop" for everything related to independent ratings systems and services.

FCC Launches Online "Parents' Place"

This is interesting because the FCC has had a Parents Place for years.  So I think this is really the official relaunch.  At this point here is what it offers:

  • Info on TV Parental Guidelines
  • Links to Childhood Obesity project
  • Info on the Wireless industry voluntary guidelines
  • Discussion forums

The discussion forums may turn out to be the most interesting part of the site.  But I do hope that there would be more resources posted.  How about links to the many organizations that offer resources for parents, for example?
