The Coalition for Independent Ratings Services

is a non-profit organization that promotes independent ratings services.  We believe is crucial that the groups rating the movies, TV, video games, etc are not the same ones who are trying to sell those products to you.  Since they don't have a financial interest in any particular product, independent ratings providers can be much more objective.

The goal of this site is to be a "one-stop shop" for everything related to independent ratings systems and services.

Retailers sell M-rated games to minors

The Parents TV Council conducted a "secret shopper" program to see how many retailers would sell M-rated (M for Mature) video games to minors.  PTC found that out of the 109 stores visited, 21 sold M-rated games to minors -- a 19% failure rate by the video game retailers.  You can read their release here.

This finding again raises the question of parental controls for video game consoles.  Because if parents can program a video game console to block M-rated games, then even if their underage child succeeds in buying an M-rated game, he/she can't play when they get home.

Pretty obvious, isn't it?
