The Coalition for Independent Ratings Services

is a non-profit organization that promotes independent ratings services.  We believe is crucial that the groups rating the movies, TV, video games, etc are not the same ones who are trying to sell those products to you.  Since they don't have a financial interest in any particular product, independent ratings providers can be much more objective.

The goal of this site is to be a "one-stop shop" for everything related to independent ratings systems and services.

California Congressman Calls for Health Warning Labels on Video Games
News

California Congressman Joe Baca has introduced legislation, the "Video Game Health Labeling Act of 2009", that would require violent video games with ESRB ratings of T (Teen) or highter to be sold with a warning label. The proposed label would  read: “WARNING: Excessive exposure to violent video games and other violent media has been linked to aggressive behavior.” In a press release on Baca's web site, he states:

“The video game industry has a responsibility to parents, families, and to consumers – to inform them of the potentially damaging content that is often found in their products,” said Rep. Baca.  “They have repeatedly failed to live up to this responsibility.  Meanwhile research continues to show a proven link between playing violent games and increased aggression in young people.  American families deserve to know the truth about these potentially dangerous products.”
