The Coalition for Independent Ratings Services

is a non-profit organization that promotes independent ratings services.  We believe is crucial that the groups rating the movies, TV, video games, etc are not the same ones who are trying to sell those products to you.  Since they don't have a financial interest in any particular product, independent ratings providers can be much more objective.

The goal of this site is to be a "one-stop shop" for everything related to independent ratings systems and services.

TV Bleeping Becoming Mainstream
News

MR900290244The "bleep". At one time, that little noise used to censor foul language on TV was heard only once in a great while, usually to cover a slip of the tongue at awards ceremonies. But that has all changed in the last few years. The Los Angeles Times reports on a study done by the Parents' Television Council that shows just how commonplace bleeping is now in prime time:

Across all networks and prime-time hours in 2010, a bleeped or muted S-word aired 95 times (up from 11 times in 2005) while a bleeped or muted F-word aired 276 times (up from 11 times in 2005).

Melissa Henson, the PTC's director of Communications and Public Education, believes that some of the networks are testing their boundaries as a result of last year's ruling by the US Second Court of Appeals that struck down the FCC's efforts to limit "fleeting expletives" on late-night TV.

More on this can be read in this article on the Los Angeles Times' web site.
