The Coalition for Independent Ratings Services

is a non-profit organization that promotes independent ratings services.  We believe is crucial that the groups rating the movies, TV, video games, etc are not the same ones who are trying to sell those products to you.  Since they don't have a financial interest in any particular product, independent ratings providers can be much more objective.

The goal of this site is to be a "one-stop shop" for everything related to independent ratings systems and services.

Supreme Court Strikes Down CA Video Game Law
News

MR900341775Today, the US Supreme Court struck down the California video game law that banned the sale and rental of explicit video games to minors. Senator Leland Yee first introduced the law in 2005. The law was passed but was later overturned by lower courts.

The text of the ruling can be seen here

GamePolitics quotes Senator Yee on the court's decision:

"As a result of their decision, Wal-Mart and the videogame industry will continue to make billions of dollars at the expense of our kids’ mental health and the safety of our community...“It is simply wrong that the videogame industry can be allowed to put their profit margins over the rights of parents and the well-being of children."
